SHAWN HOLMES
FILMMAKER
Shawn Holmes is a filmmaker celebrated for his thrilling narratives and distinct visual storytelling. With an innate ability to captivate audiences, he masterfully combines riveting plotlines, emotive storytelling, and striking imagery, delivering universally appealing cinematic experiences.
Holmes attended Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television before returning to his roots in West Virginia. There, with resilience and a shoestring budget of less than $300, he created the thriller "Memory Lane". This film, shot in his grandmother's garage using a basic DSLR and friends as actors, was initially intended to be a proof of concept. However, after gaining over 23,000 views in just 48 hours online, Holmes found himself with a manager and a license for worldwide distribution.
Emboldened by this success and with a determination to tell larger-scale universal stories, Holmes ventured into new projects. His post-apocalyptic coming-of-age thriller "Rockabye" was optioned to Ashton Kutcher’s Katalyst Films, and his psychological thriller screenplay "The Knife Salesman" was recognized as a finalist in the Screencraft Feature Screenwriting Competition.
In 2021, Holmes took up the mantle of artist-in-residence at the George A. Romero Filmmaking Program. Here, he demonstrated his versatility by directing the coming-of-age drama "How to Tie a Tie", diverging from his typical high-stakes thrillers. This short film was recognized at multiple festivals, winning "Best Short" at the Oscar-Qualifying Peachtree Village International Film Festival and the Philadelphia International Film Festival and Market.
Holmes' burgeoning career has already seen him recognized as a finalist for the Warner Brothers Emerging Directors Workshop and as the youngest nominee in history for the West Virginia Filmmaker of the Year Award. With two awards from the West Virginia Broadcasters Association for his television work and commercial projects for high-profile clients like Paul Mitchell and The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, Holmes has firmly established his presence in the industry.
Most recently, Holmes completed a professional television pilot writing assignment with Voyage Media and producer Aaron Semmel of Morgan Creek Entertainment. With his diverse range of skills and compelling storytelling, Holmes continues to bring captivating and thought-provoking narratives to screens worldwide.
